British Breeds

The wonderful British Breeds yarn is perfect for Fair Isle knitting. Its mélange effect highlights the beautiful patterns that characterize Marie Wallin's designs. The yarn is a soft and bouncy 4-ply wool yarn that took two years to develop and is spun by John Arbon Mill in Devon.

The yarn consists of 100% British wool from four different sheep breeds, each contributing unique characteristics: Bluefaced Leicester provides softness, Exmoor Horn contributes a clean white base for successful dyeing, Romney adds strength and luster, while Zwartbles adds bounce.

The fibers are blended and dyed to create unique shades, which are then combined with undyed Zwartbles wool to achieve the mélange effect. Finally, the yarn is steam-treated in Bradford to give it its full and light character.
