Spinni is a single-ply wool yarn. In the past in Iceland, this type of yarn was hand-spun so thinly that a finished knitted shawl could be pulled through a finger ring. Today's Spinni is not quite that thin, but it remains a yarn with many areas of use. When knitted alone, it is excellent for lace shawls. One of its primary characteristics is that it holds its shape very well, ensuring that a shawl or scarf does not "collapse" or lose its structure.
Since Spinni is a single-ply yarn spun in one direction, it is not suitable for stockinette stitch in the round on a circular needle. The finished work then has a tendency to bias (twist diagonally). However, if you knit in the round using a textured pattern, this is usually not a problem. In colorwork, Spinni is often used as one of the strands, and with its beautiful and characteristic texture, it becomes a very fine element in the finished knitting.
